Wireless Version with extra long range to several remote class rooms:
A Presbyterian Church in North Carolina needed a method to receive a call for assistance from several remote class rooms separated from the main church building. Installing wires was too difficult due to the extensive landscaping on the property. She wanted to use our cordless phone system but needed to be able to send a 'page' from multiple points, some quite far away. We worked on the problem together over the phone and decided to use a wireless three digit 'Silent Usher' together with the new very inexpensive FRS (family radio service) walkie-talkies available at many outlets such as Radio Shack. Each nursery or remote class room would have a walkie-talkie (about $ 25) as would the sound and light operator situated to the side of the sanctuary. The operator could receive calls from as many rooms or remote buildings as necessary and by using the cordless phone hand set could post numbers to the display at the front of the sanctuary. This variation easily gave the necessary range and total portability required. Only the sound man kept his radio turned on all the time, and the batteries typically last for 48 hours of continual use. The other radios were only turned on to call a number in. |

Wireless system in school gym:
This is a very common application for our wireless systems. Generally the display is set to the side of the stage on a table or speaker. The cordless phone base unit sits next to the display and plugs directly into the display. No 'regular' phone company connection is required, so you wont get a dial tone. Power is supplied to the phone and display through a short extension cord. The hand set is taken to the nursery, or left in a common area allowing several rooms access. Alternatively an Usher holds onto it and he remains within easily reach of any one needing to post a number to the paging display. You will have almost instant access to up to 999 individual parents simply by dialing in a three digit number to a handset carried in a pocket. Total portability means the 'page' can be initiated from almost anywhere in the building. Wired in system with two digit display, two extra keypads and using existing spare telephone wiring: A Baptist church in Vancouver BC wanted to have a keypad in a portable building separated from the main building complex. There was a concrete patio and lawn between the building and the portable so it was not possible to bury a wire to the keypad. Instead, use was made of spare telephone wires in a multi strand cable that ran out to the portable. Access to the cable was easily made in the church phone equipment room which was also the boiler room. We spoke to the fellow who would do the work, a church member, who was also a telephone installer. He traced out the wires from the portable to the phone room and made the connection to the Silent Usher wiring. It has worked without a hitch for years! The other two keypads were wired in by running the wire along the hall ways, part of the distance at the top of the wall, but mostly behind drop ceiling tiles. Small dabs of clear hot melt glue were used to fix the wire to the top corner of the wall. The main nursery keypad provided the necessary power to run the entire system. |
